2012 Jim Kennedy Launch

The University College Limerick is an appropriate setting for the Launch of the first Jim Kennedy Cup competition in association with Munster Ladies Gaelic Football.
Speaking at the Launch on Wednesday night Munster Ladies President, Brian Enright expressed the importance of honouring Jim Kennedy, he being the first national president of the association from 1974 to 1977 and this the first inter county college competition in the province. This competition is a fitting tribute to the Munster man who played a major part in the founding of the association. From those humble beginnings 38 years ago the association has blossomed into the huge organisation it is today. Thanks to Jim and his fellow founder members for the vision and foresight of ladies Gaelic football as it is now thriving with in excess of 200,000 playing members a far cry from the humble beginnings in Hayes hotel in 1974.Jim presented the Jim Kennedy Cup to President Brian Enright and said it was an honour to have competition named after him.
The launch was also attended by officers and members of the Munster Ladies Gaelic football Association, player and member representatives of the 5 participating teams, along with a hale and hearty Jim Kennedy his wife Lily and daughters Martina Ann Mary and Dolores. Dolores spoke about her father and how proud the family were of him and the work he has done over the years with all sports but particularly with the Ladies Gaelic Football Dolores then presented a trophy to Brian for player of the match in the final. Tom Campbell Chairman of Tipperary Ladies County board also spoke of Jim and how he was an inspiration to all within Tipperary he confirmed the sponsorship of the medals for the winners as a tribute to Jim him being a fellow County man. Brian Enright then thanked all those involved with the organising of the competition in particular Dan O Mahony, Marie Halvey and D J Collins for his help in arranging the venue for the final. The Jim Kennedy Cup caters for inter county and college teams and the final is set for Sunday January 29th at UL. Brian also thanked the Munster G A A for their continued support Chairman Sean Walsh and Secretary  Pat Fitzgerald sent their apologies but wished the competition every success.
