Kerry Ladies News May 7

Aisling McGing Junior C/ship Preview
Kerry open their National Junior Championship campaign with a tough away trip to Dublin next Sunday at St. Margaret’s at 1.30pm. Kerry surprised many last season when they reached the semi-finals of this competition and accounted for Champions Cork in the early stages. Kerry head into this game with many of their panel out due to Exams but have welcomed back Mairead Finnegan and Amanda Brosnan which should strengthen up their forward line and will look to the experience of Cait Lynch, Megan Galvin, Julie Brosnan, Cassandra Buckley, Amy Foley and Captain Mary Herlihy to give the team more balance. While it looks like a bridge too far at this early stage in the competition Dublin will be well aware that Kerry are more than capable of turning in a big performance. The Team selection will be later in the week.

MLGFA Minor A C/ship Final
Kerry 1-10 Cork 4-08

Last Saturday saw the Kerry Minors taken on our near neighbours Cork in the Munster Minor Final. These teams had already met during the campaign where Kerry had dealt with them easily enough however this time Kerry faced a full strength and fit Cork team and this was to prove too difficult for them to overcome.

Cork got off to a great start, one that Kerry would have loved. Within 4 minutes Cork had 2-01 on the scoreboard, all of these scores coming from Corks centre-forward Doireann O’Sullivan. It was a body blow to Kerry but they rallied and responded with the next three points, one from Caroline McCarthy and two from Claire O’Sullivan. Both sides swapped a point each with Kerry’s coming from the boot of Claire O’Sullivan. So with just 10 minutes gone the score stood at Kerry 0-4 Cork 2-2.
However just as Kerry looked to be in the game, Cork hit back with goal number 3, a ball sent in over the top found their corner forward Aileen Buckley and she hit the ball low and hard into the back of the net. Cork followed this with a point from Doireann O’Sullivan as Kerry replied with three unanswered points from Leanne Mangan, Laura Sheeran and Meagan Galvin. Kerry tried to search for goals but was unable to break down the Cork defence. Cork’s Doireann O’Sullivan added two more points from frees before half time while Kerry’s Maria Quirke slotted one over the bar and at the short whistle Cork led 3-5 to 0-8.

Kerry got the best start to the second half, a goal after a few minutes as Claire O’Sullivan’s shot for a point fell short and the Cork Keeper spilled the ball, where Caroline McCarthy pounced and hit the ball into the roof of the net. This left just three points between the two sides. But Cork’s reply was immediate and responded with a goal as they moved the ball fast up the field with Laura Crowley’s shot dipping below the crossbar and into the net. Both sides swapped wides until the 22nd minute and Amy Fitzgerald was sin binned for tackle on Doireann O’Sullivan who pointed the resulting free. Kerry was down to 14 players and 8 points down. Kerry added two more points from the boots of Eilish O’Connor and Anna Galvin. While Laura Crowley pointed for Cork. Kerry searched for a gap in the Cork defence but were unable to break them down.
A stronger and skilled Cork side move on to face either Dublin or Meath, while for Kerry the season is over. This is the first year that there is no B competition for the losers so it’s back to the drawing board for next year and see what needs to be looked at to ensure that next time round we can bring some silverware home. Final Score Kerry 10 Cork 4-08.
Kerry; Michelle O’Connor, Geraldine Cahalane, Sinead Guiney, Ayesha Roche, Brid O’Connor, Eibhlis Dillon, Eilish O’Connor, Laura Rodgers, Laura Sheeran, Caroline McCarthy, Anna Galvin, Maria Quirke, Claire O’Sullivan, Megan O’Connell, Leanne Mangan.
Subs: Sarah Kelly for Ayesha Roche, Amy Fitzgerald for Caroline McCarthy, Shauna Moriarty for Maria Quirke, Erin O’Driscoll for Claire O’Sullivan

Cork; Jean O’Sulivan, Aoibhe Hickey, Maire O’Callaghan, Sinead Cotter, Shauna Kelly, Jennifer Barry, Jenny Quinn, Roisin Phelan, Rachel Barrett, Joanne Downe, Doireann O’Sullivan, Elaine Scally, Aoife Plunkett, Laura Crowley, Aileen Buckley.

MLGFA U14 A C/ship Final
Kerry 2-9 Cork 1-14
A personal tally of 1-11 and a player of the game performance from Laura Cleary daughter of former Cork great John Cleary was the stand out difference as Kerry were left to rue a hatful of missed chances in the Munster Final played at Rathmore.

The game opened brightly with both team’s level after 5 minutes at 0-2 each with Cleary (2) and Aoife Walsh and Saidbh Fitzgerald with a point each. Cork hit the front shortly after when Meg Jo Sullivan pointed but Kerry were to hit a purple patch and 2 goals in as many minutes from Shannon O’Leary and Eilish Kavanagh seemed to put Kerry on the right course but with an Injury to Danika O’Grady the Kerry dominance never counted especially when Kerry missed 3 further goal chances with 2 hitting the crossbar and one the butt of the post. Cork added 5 unanswered points as Kerry completely lost their way and Cork were then awarded a penalty on the 25th and reduced the deficit lead to the bare margin 2-3 to 0-8. Linda Bruggener made a fantastic save from the penalty but the slowness to re-act from the Kerry backs saw the rebounded effort scored by Cleary.
In fairness Kerry did find their way somewhat in the closing minutes and Kerry’s Saidbh Fitzgerald always a handful for Cork added 2 points to bring her half time tally to 4 points and see Kerry head to the dressing rooms level 2-5 to 1-8
The second half saw both teams defences on top for large stages and at the mid way mark the teams were still level 1-10 to 2-7 with Emma Dineen and Andrea Murphy to the fore in the Kerry back line while Aoife Walsh and an Eilish Kavanagh free added to the Kerry total. Again Cork were able to find a new gear and with Cleary shooting 3 quick fire points Kerry were now losing touch and try as they might, they put tremendous pressure on the Cork backs and were not able to close the gap and while Saidbh Fitzgerald’s thunder bolt of a shot in injury time deserved better it was deflected onto the crossbar and reducing the margin to 2 and Cork closed down all avenues, smothered all attempts and time ran out with Cork running out 2 point winners.
Kerry: Linda Bruggener, Emma Dineen, Melissa Holland, Gemma Teahan, Saoirse Kelly, Danika O’Grady, Andrea Murphy, Christine Cooper, Ciara Griffin, Aoife Walsh (0-2), Eilish Kavanagh (1-2), Norma Mahony, Julie O’Connell, Shannon Leary (1-0), Saidbh Fitzgerald (0-5).
Subs: Eilish O’Leary, Sarah Murphy.

News from the Kingdom April 29th

Bord Gais NFL S/f:
Kerry 1-07 Mayo 4-06

Banagher was the venue yet again for Kerry where they faced Mayo in this the Division 2 semi-final. Kerry have had some good days at this venue however today was not to be one of these days, a strong wind and a strong Mayo team faced them.
Mayo laid out their stall in the first minute with a ball being sent into Cora Staunton, who shot for goal skipped straight across the goal and out wide. Kerry had the strong wind with them for the first half and in the next few minutes used it with Mairead Finnegan opening the scoring with a well taken point. Sarah Houlihan followed with a pointed free. Nine minutes in and Niamh Kelly for Mayo opened their scoring, with Cora Staunton levelling matters with a free. Kerry was winning a lot of possession with a fine effort sent in to Patrice Dennehy who was fouled and Sarah Houlihan tapped over the free. Mairead Finnegan was unlucky to see her shot on goal saved by the Mayo Keeper; Kerry had a few more chances for scores but was unable to convert and it wasn’t until the 20th minute that Kerry hit the back of the net coming from the boot of Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh as Kerry now led Mayo 1-3 to 0-2. Mayo response came 5 minutes later when Niamh Kelly’s shot for a point dipped under the crossbar and into the goal. Kerry responded with a free from Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh. However Mayo were to hit the net before the whistle for half time as Cora Staunton took a free which got caught in the wind, dropped in the square and bounced high and into the goal. Mayo took a 1 point lead into the break.
It was 9 minutes into the second half and Kerry playing against the wind equalised matters with a point from Mairead Finnegan. Both sides’ defences playing well at this stage, it was 15 minutes in before Mayo retook the lead with another point from Cora Staunton. Kerry’s response was a move up the field by Louise Galvin who won her foul with Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh putting it over. All level with 10 minutes left. It was Mayo who pushed on with a pass in from Fiona McHale to Cora Staunton who placed the ball low and hard into the net giving Maria Quirke no chance. Before Kerry could get their bearings, Mayo struck for goal number 4 through substitute Sarah Rowe. Mayo added two more points, before Maria Quirke made an excellent save from Cora Staunton denying her a hat trick. Kerry added one point this time from the boot of midfielder Bernie Breen. At this stage Mayo had battled down the hatches and smothered any space the Kerry forwards tried to make.
Mayo now advances to meet Galway, who overcame Clare earlier in the day. Kerry now must regroup and prepare for a Munster Final against Cork/Clare.

Kerry:

Maria Quirke, Cait Lynch, Aisling Leonard, Casandra Buckley, Emma Sherwood, Aislinn Desmond, Aoife Lyons, Lorrains Scanlon, Bernie Breen, Louise Galvin, Patrice Dennehy, Mairead Finnegan, Sarah Houlihan, Deirdre Corridan, Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh.

Subs: Sarah Jane Joy for Patrice Dennehy, Mary Herlihy for Sarah Houlihan, Megan O’Connell for Deirdre Corridan, Laura O’Sullivan for Mairead Finnegan

Munster Ladies Minor C/ship Final preview
Kerry v Cork in Rathmore Sat May 5th @ 4pm

Having a successful campaign to date, this is the ultimate prize available for David O’Connor and his Minors, as this is his 2nd year in charge and last year they collected the Minor All Ireland Shield and just 60 minutes now await to see if they can overcome the might of the Rebels to collect the Munster minor title for 2012. Having a strong panel to select from is the secret to success and in 2 games to date they have played as one single unit, this is the most important ingredient going forward. Cork won’t show up for this game to make up the numbers, make no mistake they are going to fight all the way with all guns blazing and will have the 3 forwards available who missed the 2nd round game a few weeks ago. The Kerry backs are solid, (all 6) as is the midfield combination of Laura Rodgers and Laura Sheeran, they have six scoring forwards and a further 5 on the bench. This should give them an advantage over the Rebels and they also have home venue, which should see Kerry’s first silverware of 2012 been collected in Rathmore on Saturday next. The team will be selected on Thursday night

Kerry Panel:
Michelle O’Connor (Kenmare-Capt), Geraldine Cahillane (Kenmare), Sinead Guiney (Castleisland), Brid O’Connor (Na Gaeil), Barbara Brown (Castleisland), Eiblish Dillon (Duagh), Ayesha Roche (Na Gaeil), Laura Rodgers (Austin Stacks), Laura Sheeran (Duagh). Eilish O’Connor (Na Gaeil), Anna Galvin,(Southern Gaels) Marie Quirke (Na Gaeil). Munster MLGFA U14 C/ship Final Preview
Kerry v Cork in Rathmore Sat May 5th @ 2pm
Kerry U14’s opened their Munster campaign with a win in Glenbeigh over Cork, but were sluggish in the semi finals against a less fancied Tipperary. But Tim Kennelly will have his troops in order for this final and won’t be afraid of the Rebels. A large panel to pick from will aid the Manager and a solid team performance again may see the Double been done on the day. Kerry will have to improve on major aspects of the game, but this group are capable of that improvement and we all look forward to this clash with Cork on Saturday next. Throw in time of 2pm

Kerry Panel: Bruggener (Spa), Saoirse Kelly, Emma Dineen, Keelie O'Connor (Glenflesk), Capt - Shannon O'Leary, Sarah Murphy, Norma Mahony, Katie Mahony, Muiriosa O'Leary (Rathmore), Ciara Griffin, Eilish Kavannagh, Aine Cahillane (Corca Duibhne), Andrea Murphy, Melissa Holland (Castleisland Desmonds), Christine Cooper (Dr Crokes), Aoife Walsh (Currow), Julie O'Connell, Saidbh Fitzgerald, Sinead Clifford (Southern Gaels), Eilish O'Leary (Kilcummin), Cliona Coffey, Danika O'Grady (Laune Rangers), Isabelle Corridan, Rebecca Murphy, Elizabeth Mohan (Legion), Clodagh McKenna (Aunnascaul), Emma Sheahan (Cromane), Aoife Behan, Jaquline Horgan (Finuge/St Senans), Katie Talbot (Fossa), Rebekah Garvey, Leah Henry (Listowel Emmets), Gemma Teehan (Milltown/Listry).

AXA Insurance Senior County League Division 2 Final.

Austin Stacks 6-9 Kerins O’Rahillys 4-15

The action, drama and excitement from the AXA Insurance Senior county league division 2 final, as Austin Stacks and Kerins O’Rahillys pushed each other to the limit and a late point from Rahillys, give both teams another crack at each other and the replay is fixed for Friday May 11th, venue TBC.
What was most pleasing for the spectators was the mix of experience from Stacks as Linda Raymond and Marina Barry were to the fore and the youth of Kerins O’Rahillys Shauna Hannifin and Cliona Hayes along with Stacks Laura Rogers, mixed well together to serve up a classic Town derby.

Stacks hit the ground running and were 2-3 to no score up in the opening 9 minutes as Karina Quilter, Karina Slattery and Megan O’Brien all converted from play as Rahillys found it hard to settle against the Stacks who had the aid of a strong breeze. In the 5 minute a cleared ball by Rachel Tough worked up field to Marina Barry who found Laura Rogers free and Laura raced in and raised the green flag and Marina Barry herself slammed the net 2 minutes later, leaving Rahillys with a mountain to climb.

Pictured
Austin Stacks Megan O’Brien get ready to aim as Rahillys #5 Naomi Reidy & team mate #11 Shauna Hannifin close in as Stacks Laura Rogers and Rahillys Cliona Hayes move towards the action

Rahillys were just adjusting to the strong wind and worked well to move into an attacking formation and had a goal chance, but settled for their first point as the shot was cleared by Sarah Higgins and Angela O’Mahony tapped it over for a point. This motivated Strand Road and both Shauna Hannifin and Cliona Hayes put over 2 on the trot and but were cancelled out by Marina Barry and Patrize Brosnan replies. The Blues settled and forced the Stacks to defend, but sloppy marking saw the Stacks keeper unable to hold a high dropping ball and Angela O’Mahony, unmarked made no mistake as she drilled low to the net. This was followed by a Barbara Higgins effort which reduced the margin to 4 by the 22nd minute. Stacks held their lines and Laura Rogers & Megan O’Brien replied for the Stacks and the last score of the half fell to Lisa Keane and Rahillys cut the margin to 5 at the short whistle. Half time Austin Stacks 2-7 KOR 1-5

At the restart Marina Barry had her effort trail wide and Rahillys now with the aid of the strong breeze, which put pressure on the Stacks and like the movie of the same name " Gone in 60 seconds" was a 5 point lead by the Stacks which turned into a 1 point deficit as Lisa Keane & Angela O’Mahony both sought and found the back of the Stacks net as Stacks were caught napping in their defence and a further Shauna Hannifin effort put the Blues ahead by 2, for the first time in the game.
Marina Barry pulled 1 back for the Rock but Barbara Higgins replied with 2 efforts as Rahillys had now extended their lead to 3. Linda Raymond and Cliona Hayes traded points leaving 3 between the sides until Stacks made a combined attack with Laura Rogers, Marie Clair Murphy and Karina Quilter all involved in the move that saw Marina Barry again unmarked, who struck it low and out of the reach of Nicola Horan to level the game, 3-9 a piece at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Strand Road’s reply was swift and rewarding as Cliona Hayes collected on the 40 and soloed her way into the 13 metre line and buried the ball in the Stacks net, but Stacks were not to be outdone and from that kick out, the ball worked up field found Marina Barry free inside the 13 meter line who was fouled and a penalty awarded. Up stepped Deidre McMahon and again the game was level by the 20th minute. The last 10 minutes of any game usually serves up the most excitement and nerve racking time. This was no exception as witnessed by all who attended, who probably fielded and kicked every ball in every effort to give both teams, who pushed each other to the limit any advantage in order to win this game. Cliona Hayes had 2 points on the run followed by an effort from her teammate Katelyn O’Sullivan giving Rahillys the 3 point advantage, but not for long as disaster struck when a badly cleared ball inside the Rahillys large square found Linda Raymond unmarked and on form, chipped the Rahillys keeper giving Stacks a nail biting 1 point lead going into injury time.

With just minutes remaining in injury time, a free to Rahillys on the 20 metre line Cliona Hayes converted to tie the game and again moments later, another close range free awarded to Rahillys went wide of the mark and the referee Seamus Mulvihill blew the full time whistle in this a classic Town derby between 2 honest and passionate teams to give them time to recover and regroup for another bite at the AXA Insurance senior co league division 2 title.

Kerry Ladies Are Going To The Dogs.

Kerry Ladies Football County Board are now quite literally going to the dogs in an effort to raise funds and are holding a Greyhound Buster Race on Saturday the 5th of May at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium in Tralee.
Declan Dowling, (Stadium Track Manager) said at the launch Monday that “he was delighted that the Kerry Ladies and Kerry Ladies Football Main Sponsor, Kerry Group, who have again come to the fore and are sponsoring the prizes for the Buster race draw which has a total prize fund of €1,000”.
While acknowledging the fact that the economic climate has taken a battering, the organising committee are optimistic that the buster night will not only be an excellent fundraiser but will also be a great social occasion for all who attend.

Kerry Ladies Football is experiencing a bit of a renaissance at the moment after a bit of a quiet spell thanks to some trojan work being done by the current County Board.
The Board have development programmes from U11 right up to U17. Along with these excellent development programmes Kerry have competitive squads at U14, U16, Minor, Junior and Senior levels. This year to date the Senior squad have progressed to the semi-final of Division 2 of the National Football League on Sunday next v Mayo and the U14s & Minors have already having qualified for the Munster Final. Kerry Ladies News and Events (April 23rd)
Kerry V Mayo
Bord Gais Energy NFL Div 2 S/f Preview, Sunday in Birr @ 3pm
William O’Sullivan and the Seniors travel to Birr on Sunday next for the division 2 semi final against Mayo and Kerry still have long term injuries to the squad as Breda Lane along with Gina Crowley, Denise Hallissey (Shoulder Inj), Julie Brosnan (Ankle) and Caroline Kelly who immigrated will not be available for the showdown, however Edel Murphy, Aislinn Desmond, Aisling Leonard and Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh have all recovered from recent knocks.
Kerry did travel to Mayo in the latter stage of the league and lost by 2 points in that encounter and if thay can avoid conceding frees close in, this should limit Cora Stauntons tally as she contributed 1-7 of Mayo’s 1-9 in that game. Kerry will be hope full in having a full squad and the fact that their forwards
Louise Galvin, Sarah Houlihan, Patrice Dennehy, Megan O Connell, Deirdre Corridan and Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh can score and will not be afraid to test the Mayo backs in any given day. Kerry should advance but by a tight margin. The team will be announced on Friday evening.

Kerry out classed Tipperary in this 2nd round game in the Minor C/ship in Ballymac last Saturday another display of firepower in the opening minutes as they had 2 goals from Claire O’Sullivan and Maria Quirke and 4 points on the board in the opening 10 minutes. Claire O’Sullivan, Ann Galvin & Maria Quirke lorded the half forward roles as the dominated the Tipp half back line and the constant supply to Kerry’s full forwards saw this game over as a contest at the end of the first quarter as Kerry led 2-6 to no score. Anna Galvin and Megan O’Connell worked well together as a combine contribution of 1-9 from play as Kerry extended their lead by a further goal from Rachael O’Sullivan and points from Leeann Mangan, O’Connell and Quirke to lead 3-13 to 0-0 at the end of the short whistle.
At the restart Maria Quirke & Claire O’Sullivan had 3 points form play until Tipperary’s Sinead Kennedy scored their first of the day, followed by Amy Pollard who raised the green flag and a further point from Kennedy which was Tipp’s total for the day as Kerry tapped over 5 more and a another goal from Claire O’Sullivan just before the full time whistle.
Kerry’s next encounter will be the Munster Minor final on Sat May 5th against Cork. Kerry did empty the bench as Amy Fitzgerald, Sarah Kelly, Rachel O’Sullivan, Olivia Quilter and Erin O’Driscoll all came on as replacements and as a whole Kerry learned very little from this encounter. Manager David O’Connor will now have to have good serious challenge matches to keep them focused and sharp in the weeks ahead.

Barbara Brown (Castleisland), Eiblish Dillon (Duagh), Ayesha Roche (Na Gaeil), Laura Rodgers (Austin Stacks) Laura Sheeran (Duagh). AXA Insurance Senior Football League Update
Division 2 S/f’s
Austin Stacks 5-4 Abbeydorney 4-5

The Stacks booked a division 2 final appearance against their town rivals Kerins O’Rahillys as Stacks had just 2 to spare over Abbeydorney in a windy wet Abbeydorney on Sunday last as the Connolly Park venue was deemed unplayable a half an hour before the original throw in and the venue switched to O’Dorney. Stacks lead 3-3 to 1-4 at half time and it was O’dorney who used the strong wind to their advantage as a goal from Catherine Sexton gave O’dorney a 1 point lead and they held it well until they conceded a penalty in the closing minutes and Stacks converted & held on to the 2 point advantage and from the 2nd s/f Kerins O’Rahillys who overcame Firies 6-11 to 2-10.
In the Shield semi finals Scartaglin had too much firepower for home side Kilcummin and Duagh travelled to Rathbeg and earned a Shield final spot on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-3.
In the div 4 s/f’s both Corca Duibhne and Spa came through and will face off in the Div 4 decider, which will go ahead on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The Plate Final will see Legion and Clounmacon do battle for the honours, this will go ahead next Sat in a Tralee venue TBC for a 5.45 throw in and also the Div 4 Development Cup Final as Currow and Dingle will contest this one, with the venue TBC.
The fourth and last final of next weekend will see a North Kerry derby as Listowel Emmets B and Causeway clash in the Division 4 Shield Final. Venues for all game will be confirmed to all Clubs during Mid week.

Kerry Ladies News and Events (April 16th)

Munster U16 C/ship 1st Round

Cork 2-14 Kerry 2-9
All Ireland Champions Kerry left it too late in their comeback against Cork at Strand Road last Wednesday evening as the Rebels had 5 points to spare in the first round of the Munster Championship. Kerry playing against a strong breeze made a great start and had 2 points inside the first 3 mins, but failed to score for the rest of the half as Cork through ran up a 2-8 to 0-2 lead at half time. The Cork goals came from Jessica Tonks and Julie Dennehy.
Kerry set about their task in the second half with a renewed vigour and Katie Dennehy, Savannah McCarthy and Niamh Carmody all added points before a 11th minute goal from Denise Dunlea reduced the gap to 2-10 to 1-5. Kerry were now enjoying some more midfield possession but it was Cork’s ability to score when needed that separated the sides as Cork added further points in the later stages to put them 2-14 to 1-9 before a late Megan O’Connor goal cut the gap to 5 by the end of the game.
Kerry will draw the positives from this match but their failure to score for 28 minutes of the game will surely be a worry as they now head into the semi-final hoping to set up another crack at the Rebels later in the year.

Kerry: Melissa Holland, Aileen Sheehan, Aoife Kennelly, Neasa McKenna, Aoife Shine, Jane Carmody, Rebecca Horgan, Jane Lynch, Shauna Hannifin 0-1, Micheala O’Connor 0-1, Cliona Hayes, Katie Dennehy 0-2, Savannah McCarthy 0-4, Niamh Carmody 0-1, Denise Dunlea 1-0 . Subs Megan O’Connor 1-0

Munster Ladies Minor C/ship 1st Round:
Kerry 5-11 Cork 0-3
Kerry out classed Cork in the 1st round of the Minor C/ship in sunny Templenoe on Saturday with a display of firepower in the opening minutes as they had 2 goals from play and a penalty by the 4th minute to their credit before they registered the first point of the afternoon.
The home side totally dominated this game from start to finish and Cork having just 3 points to the scoreboard, all in the first half, now go back to the drawing board as they will more than lightly face the Kingdom in the Munster Minor Final double header on Sat May 5th in a Kerry venue TBC.
Leanne Mangan, Laura Rogers and the forwards can all stand tall after their awesome display of firepower, but very seldom will players playing out of defence receive Player of the Match and in this case all of Kerry’s 6 defenders deserve this credit as they held Cork scoreless in the second half and the old saying “Not bad for a day’s work”.
Manager David O’Connor was delighted with the display as all players worked as a unit and Cork who last week overcame Tipperary 9-36 to 1 point, will mean bar the Bus breaking down, Kerry after next weekend’s tie against Tipperary should book a Final berth and another Munster Minor final against the Rebels on Sat May 5th. The Kerry v Tipperary game will throw in in Ballymac GAA Pitch at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Kerry: Michelle O’Connor (Kenmare-Capt), Geraldine Cahillane (Kenmare), Sinead Guiney (Castleisland), Brid O’Connor (Na Gaeil). Barbara Brown (Castleisland), Eiblish Dillon (Duagh), Ayesha Roche (Na Gaeil), Laura Rodgers (Austin Stacks) Laura Sheeran (Duagh).Eilish Connor (Na Gaeil), Anna Galvin (Southern Gaels) Marie Quirke (Na Gaeil). Claire O’Sullivan (Kenmare), Megan O’Connell (Southern Gaels) Leanne Mangan (Castleisland).

U14 Munster Ladies S/f:
Tipperary 1-09 Kerry 3-08
Kerry qualified for the U14 Munster final after overcoming a very skilful and committed Tipperary as the final score does not do justice to the huge challenge that Tipperary presented and if Kerry are to regain the Munster title they will have to make great strides before the May 5th fixture.
The game was dominated by Tipperary’s’ running game and it took immense courage from the under performing Kerry girls to come out the right side of the scoreline, Eilish Kavanagh and Norma O’Mahony had kept Kerry ticking over before an excellent Tipperary  goal put them in front 1-02 to 0-02 in the 13th minute. Tipp held this lead until the 31st minute when Julie O’Connell pounced for a Kerry goal to level the game 1-04 apiece and a pointed free from Eilish saw Kerry take the slenderest of leads into the halftime break.
Katie O’Mahony added to the Kerry lead in the first minute of the second half only for Tipp to dominate the next fifteen minutes of play to bring the score to 1-06 to 1-06.  Excellent play by Julie O’Connell out on the wing led to the concession of a penalty by the Tipp defense which was despatched to the net by Eilish Kavannagh. This score took the wind out of the Tipperary sails and over the remaining minutes points were exchanged to bring the score to 1-09 to 2-08 as they entered an uncomfortable period of extra time. Saorise Kelly took a brilliant individual goal in the 6th minute of injury time to calm Kerry nerves and ensure that the Kingdom qualified for the final on a final score of 1-09 to 3-08.
Kerry will have to improve on major aspects of the game in order to compete in the Munster final, but this group are capable of that improvement and we all look forward to their clash with either Cork or Waterford on May 5th in a Kerry venue.

Kerry Panel: Linda Bruggener (Spa), Saoirse Kelly, Emma Dineen, Keelie O'Connor (Glenflesk), Capt - Shannon O'Leary, Sarah Murphy, Norma Mahony, Katie Mahony, Muiriosa O'Leary (Rathmore), Ciara Griffin, Eilish Kavannagh, Aine Cahillane (Corca Duibhne), Andrea Murphy, Melissa Holland (Castleisland Desmonds), Christine Cooper (Dr Crokes), Aoife Walsh (Currow), Julie O'Connell, Saidbh Fitzgerald, Sinead Clifford (Southern Gaels), Eilish O'Leary (Kilcummin), Cliona Coffey, Danika O'Grady (Laune Rangers), Isabelle Corridan, Rebecca Murphy, Elizabeth Mohan (Legion), Clodagh McKenna (Aunnascaul), Emma Sheahan (Cromane), Aoife Behan, Jaquline Horgan (Finuge/St Senans), Katie Talbot (Fossa), Rebekah Garvey, Leah Henry (Listowel Emmets), Gemma Teehan (Miltown/Castlemaine).

AXA Insurance Senior Football League Div 1 Final
Laune Ranger 3-20 Sneem Kenmare 1-11
Laune Rangers captured their 3rd Division 1 title in a row after a convincing display of firepower against a gallant Sneem Kenmare who make this trip to the division 1 final having accounted for Listowel last weekend. Now having contested the division 2 final of last year Sneem Kenmare can hold their heads high and build further on their success and don’t be surprised if both of these will meet in the other Senior competitions finals during the year ahead.
The Rangers opened their account in the first minute by Sarah Houlihan followed by another from Amy Foley and what a game she had as she was a thorn in Sneem Kenmare side because if she didn’t score she set them up. Claire O’Sullivan had Sneem Kenmare’s first reply and in fairness in any other given game her display is what wins games, but in fairness Laune Rangers were up for this game as they had a 3-6 to 2 points advantage by the end of the 1st quarter as Meadbh Jonston, Amy Foley and Sarah Houlihan all raised the green flag and with further points from Patrice Dennehy, Bernie Breen & Muireann O’Shea saw them 3-12 to 1-5 ahead at the short whistle as Majella O’Sullivan leading the attack for Sneem Kenmare found the net and points from Geraldine Doyle, Caroline McCarthy & another effort from Claire O’Sullivan cut the deficit at half time.

Sneem Kenmare were awarded a penalty at the restart and was brilliantly saved by Rangers keeper Susan Joy Sheehan and from that startled attack Rangers out gunned and muscled their opponants in the 3rd qtr as Foley & O’Shea attacked and pointed from play. 3 replies came from Claire O’Sullivan but the gap was too large to close as Rangers tagged on scores from Sarah Jane Joy, Bernie Breen, Amy Foley and Patrice Dennehy keeping that distance between the sides, meant that Rangers could afford to play the clock down and hold possession. Sneem Kenmare did try and won’t be faulted for their effort but Laune Rangers were out, to hold on to the record for another year. Excellent displays from captain Lisa Dennehy, all of the Rangers back line and their mid field ace partnership of Bernie Breen & Amy Foley along with Sarah Houlihan had a little too much experience on the day over a defiant and gallant Sneem Kenmare who pushed to the finish and can be proud of their work rate from Ann Marie O’Mahony, Geraldine Cahalane, Linda O’Connor, Geraldine Doyle and Claire O’Sullivan.
Joanne Fleming of AXA Insurance (Killarney) along with Donal Barry of Kerry Ladies Football Board  presented the Cup to Laune Rangers Captain Lisa Dennehy

Laune Rangers: Susan Joy-Sheehan, Hazel Poff, Lisa Dennehy (Capt), Maura O'Sullivan, Sarah Jane Joy, Mary Ann Doherty, Johanna O'Callaghan, Bernie Breen, Amy Foley, Sarah Houlihan, Muireann O'Shea, Patrice Dennehy, Meadhbh Johnston

With a Liam O'Connor Concert.
Kerry Ladies Football is delighted to announce that the world famous Liam O Connor will hold a one off show for us Friday 10th 2012 at The Killarney Avenue, Killarney at 8pm.
Ladies Chairperson Donal Barry speaking at the launch of the event said  " We are all really excited about this concert. Liam is a true musical icon and we are delighted to have been able to team with him to raise funds to support our Inter county team". Kerry Ladies will embark on a major fund raising drive this year as they hope to collect enough money to buy and develop their own ground and facilities. This will be one of the very few chances Kerry people will get to see Liam before he heads to America for March so advance booking is essential to avoid any disappointment. Tickets are €25.00 and are available from Sharon 086 2360810, Marion 086 1018226 or Melissa on 087 9946190

Jim Kennedy Cup Final.
This is the first Jim Kennedy Cup competition in association with Munster Ladies Gaelic Football and Munster Ladies President, Brian Enright expressed the importance of honouring Jim Kennedy, he being the first national president of the association from 1974 to 1977 and this the first inter county college competition in the province. This competition is a fitting tribute to the Munster man who played a major part in the founding of the association. From those humble beginnings 38 years ago the association has blossomed into the huge organisation it is today. While Kerry did not contest the Jim Kennedy Cup Final between UL &  Cork in the first senior Munster Competition of the year. 6 Kerry players played with UL, Aisling Leonard, Lorraine Scanlon, Edel Murphy, Laura O'Sullivan, Mary O’Keefe and Caroline Reen who all played their part and were unlucky as they tried to overcome the rebels in the final. Cork dug deep to stay ahead and claimed their first title this year on a scoreline of 0-17 to 2-09
Last year we launched a Scholarship programme for Kerry Senior Inter County Players with UL and is already paying dividends. Currently we are in talks with UCD on another such programme.
