Iveragh,Sneem Kenmare and John Mitchells were the big winners in Kilcummin last Monday in the Annual Over 25 county blitz which attracted 7 teams this year -
The teams divided into 2 groups played off in preliminary rounds before being seeded for the Cup,Shield and Plate Finals saw competitive fare throughout as the standard of football for the 4 hours proved a high quality.
Iveragh and Kilcummin topped each of their groups and faced off for the Dan Barry Cup. Iveragh led at half time 0-
Sneem/Kenmare who failed to win a senior trophy in 10 years added a second in the space of a month as they out gunned Firies to claim the Pat Lawlor Shield on a 5-
Andrea O'Connor for John Mitchells won the golden boot award when she bettered the efforts of the best free takers from each club to win an O'Neills football for her club. This new event saw each team nominate a free taker and from 5 different challenges set the Mitchells player kick 4 of her 5 with great accuracy.
This was the second year of this County Board initiative and with 85 players from 7 clubs shows the growth and popularity of Over 25's in the county is proving successful with a hope that another tournament will take place before years end. The camaraderie with the teams and players was something to see as all teams took the games in good spirits with the largest cheers reserved for some players scoring their first points in nearly 10 years.
Many thanks to the Kilcummin Club for hosting of the event and to the local organising committee for all their hard work.
