Laurel Hill 1-17 Hazelwood College 2-00

The MLGFA Post Primary schools Junior Mid West Final 2011 was played on Saturday last February 5th at Caherelly in atrocious weather conditions. Credit both schools on serving up an entertaining game of ladies gaelic football. Despite the constant down pour of rain the pitch was in excellent condition however the players at times were finding it difficult to stay on their feet. Laurel Hill fresh from their senior victory entered this final as over whelming favourites. The opening quarter was evenly contested with three points for the city school and in a breakaway attack Hazelwood corner forward Mari Danaher landed an excellent goal for her school. The expected dominance of Laurel Hill was not evident as the Hill were once again wasting many score able opportunities and with all their possession only led at the half time break by the minimum 0-07 to 2-00.
The second half was totally dominated by the favourites and added a further 1-10 without reply to claim the title and add to the trophy cabinet with captain Niamh Ryan presented with the Cup by Munster secretary Maire Halvey and the player of the final award going to Caroline Hickey for her tremendous work rate throughout the pitch over the sixty minutes.
