The Munster senior C Post Primary final was played at the splendid Castlelyons GAA pitch on Monday February 28th in beautiful sunshine. Both teams were vying for the honour to represent their school and Province in the All Ireland series and with Colaiste Choilm junior C All Ireland Champions 2010 this game put them slight favourites and with the lethal Eimear Scally in their ranks one would not bet against them.
The game started at lightening pace and both schools creating many opportunities however Loretto had the most of the chances in the opening half but carelessly squandered them. Colaiste Choilm were much more economical in front of the posts and from five attacks had 2-03 on the board. At half time Loretto led 2-06 to 2-04 and the questions been asked at the break would Loretto regret the missed chances. Colaiste started the second half with fourteen players this due to the sin binning of Deirbhla Ni Bhaird and this is the stage in the game where the damage was done with Loretto scoring a goal and three points in her absence. However before Bhaird's return Loretto also were reduced to fourteen players with Treasa McGrath visiting the bin. Colaiste tried valiantly to get back into the game but could not get the ball to Eimear Scally who was now marshalled by Niamh Foley. The inside line for Loretto of Elaine Butler who was named player of the final the Ryan's Niamh and Leanna were causing serious problems when the supply was sent in but on many occasions Loretto were over-elaborating and Colaiste punished them with a number of turnovers. Credit Loretto keeper Sinead Grant who was under extreme pressure in the last quarter bringing off a number of fine saves to ensure her school marched on however her job wasn't made any easier with minutes to go Brid Cooney the Loretto Fullback was yellow carded sending her to the bin. A delighted Loretto Captain Shauna Ryan was presented with the Pat the Baker Cup by President Dan O Mahony to great scenes of joy.
