Sinead O’Reilly, Rockchapel and Cork is Munster Player of the Year 2005 a worthy recipient.  Sinead has been a loyal and dedicated player to her club Rockchapel and her county of Cork.  Sinead was a big player for Munster this year in the inter-provincial series.  She as also a key player for Cork in winning the League and all Ireland Championship this year.  Sinead was presented with a specially inscribed Waterford Glass by the Munster GAA at a function at which she was guest on Friday December 9 last in the South Court Hotel, Limerick.

Congratulations tp Cork on winning Division 1 of the Suzuki national league in Pairc na Gael, limerick when they defeated Galway comprehensively 2-13 to 0-6 and Valerie achieved the same feat in the all Ireland final in Croke Park on October 2 when she again picked up the Player of the final award.  Valerie has been very busy attending functions to receive awards during the year.  In April she received player of the month sponsored by Lucozade sport and Irish Independent.  In November she was presented with Vodafone Player of the year in the Westbury Hotel, Dublin.  Also that month she was honoured with a Texaco Award for ladies Gaelic.  Valerie is the first Munster player to be honoured with this award and the second every lady footballer.

Congratulations to Tipperary on winning the national league Division 3 final in St Loman’s Mullingar when they defeated Dublin B 1-10 to 0-7 and Angie McDermott, Tipperary named player of the final.

A sincere thank you to all our referees, pitch co-ordinators and grounds people, umpires, 4 officials and anyone who made themselves available to help the Council during the season.  It was great to see a Munster referee officiate in Cork Park on October 2 when Derek Byrne (Limerick) was in charge of the Junior final.  Congratulations to Eileen O’Brien (Cork) who officiated at the Division 2 final in Feile Peil na nOg in Pairc na Gael in Limerick on Sunday July 3, also Derek who refereed the Division 1 final at the same venue on the day.

Compliments and congratulations to the Peil Magazine committee who have put in Trojan work all year producing our own magazine and it has helped them greatly with the counties contributing financially to the costs.  It is in our own interest to submit articles and all that is relevant to Ladies Gaelic.  Giving all our members profile and recognition in our own production.  Thanks to Fr Liam Kelleher and Alan Gunn who have put in tremendous work and time ensuring the magazine is of a very high standard.  I also thank all forms of the media for coverage of our game this past year and for 2006 the coverage will increase.

Our Scholarships are running smoothly and with the month of July assigned for our 3 county recipients which rotates annually and Ballingeary College accommodating the girls who benefit from the Council’s generosity in promoting the Gaelic language.

A sincere thank you to John O’Connor and the Kerry Ladies County Board for hosting our adult and Cailini Oga Provincial finals in Fitzgerald Stadium in August ensuring all arrangements were of the highest standard.

A sincere thanks to Munster GAA who once again have allocated a grant to Munster ladies to help defray our costs.  Also a meeting between the GAA Council officers and the ladies Gaelic officers was held and big progress was made to further help with the integration plan.  It was informative for both bodies and since with contact made with all County GAA coaching officers and our office a working relationship will benefit both bodies.  It is up to us to avail of all the opportunities the GAA make at our disposal and this is where county officers must see the need for their board to be active in a positive manner.

A sincere thank you to all who collected gates throughout the province and it would be remiss of me not to mention Anne O’Connor of Kerry and Eileen O’Brien, Assistant Treasurer who gave tremendous help to Tom Madigan as Treasurer.

Having been appointed part-time administrator of the province almost 9 months ago, it took me a few months to find my feet but in the past few, I feel it is all coming together.  I have a vision for the province that includes development in every county.  Better publicity, extensive coaching courses for referees and officials, increased sponsorship, awareness and availability of grants.  Better co-operation with the GAA.  If we as a Council work together all of these targets are well within our reach.

During the year since my appointment and at very busy times, I attended many meetings in Croke Park as a member of the committee working on our Strategic Plan. A lost of work completed during these meetings and the Strategic Plan being formulated to help the Association achieve it’s potential.  This will lead to raised standards both on and off the field and Munster ladies with all counties must leave no stone unturned to ensure that we are all ready for the challenge and if we succeed we will reap the benefits.

Our sympathy goes to anybody who suffered bereavement during the year.  In late May, Jenny Johnston (Kerry) was part of our inter-provincial panel but in week was to tragically lost her father.  To anyone else around the province who lost loved ones, go our thoughts and prayers.  We also remember Mai Flately, mother of Ita Hannon who died recently.  Ar dheis de go raibh a anam.

Congratulations to all our members who had family additions and those were were married.

Success is measured by victory but it’s important to remember all who give off their time and expertise, be it in coaching teams, administering or being involved in some way or another.  Over the past season many titles came to the province from Post-Primary schools, underage inter-county, adult titles at club and county and all those who didn’t win, you also were a success as competing is success in itself.  However, there were a few unsavoury incidents during the season, we must all reflect on these and do whatever need to be done to ensure they are not repeated.  After all its sports, nurturing our players from childhood and as leaders lets be professional in directing our charges in the correct direction on the long winding road.
A sincere thank you to my fellow officers of the Council for the season gone by and all officials throughout the province for your co-operation.

Words will not do justice for the efforts of Dan O’Mahony as Munster President for the last three years.  He has been an excellent ambassador and a major driving force.  He represented the province outstandingly well at national level and he set standards that will be very hard to equal in the years ahead.  He has been fair but firm at all times, giving up his time freely without a qualm.  As President, he gave each and every person an equal chance to put forward their points of view.  He dealt with difficult situations honestly and fairly.  We must thank his wife Rose and family for supporting him at all times. Thank you Dan but don’t even dream about retiring as you have much to offer this council and association in the years ahead.

A very sincere thank to South Liberties GAA Club who have been home of Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Council these past number of months.  Their committee have been extremely courteous to our association and are always available to assist us at all times.

As we reflect on 2005 with many memories, relax for a time, recharge the batteries and return in 2006 with renewed energy to a season of challenges, new developments and many surprises.
