This game played in Mallow on Friday 27th Jan was an excellent advertisement for Ladies Gaelic Football played by two teams who were a credit to their schools and also to their mentors. Pres Thurles who were beaten finalists last year showed their experience in winning this game but credit to Carrigaline in their first Munster Final they made Pres fight all the way to the end. Carrigaline you did your school proud (there is a saying you have to lose a final before you win one) What a pity this game was seen by so few because the players gave their all played in a very sporting manner by both teams. |

Pres on the other hand scored with most of their attacks Bernie Bergin had a point for Pres however Carrigaline were back in the game after good work by Ellen Twomey, Kayleigh O’Connor, Tara O Connor , Roisin Murray scored a good goal and straight from the kick out captain Rebecca Walsh scored a great goal. Carrigaline were back in the game big time however on the other hand were missing scores as most of their kicks dropped into the hands of Megan Callanan in the Pres goal. Pres with Bernie Bergin causing havoc in the Carrigaline full back line brought themselves back into the game with a goal from Michaela Graham. Pres had a player yellow carded in the 20th min of the first half Carrigaline upped their game after this and were rewarded with a point from Tara O Connor while under pressure Pres still fought a rearguard action and broke down the field for Elaine Devine to score a point. Carrigaline then introduced Niamh Kirwin who proved a handful for the Pres Defence and scored two points and was instrumental in forcing a penalty for Carrigaline which Tara O Connor expertly finished to the back of the net. On the stroke of half time Sally Griffin scored a point for Carrigaline to leave the score 5goals 4 points to 3goals 4points in favour of Pres Thurles.
Both teams tried very hard in the second half and it was Pres who took the initiative and scored points from Stephanie England Marianne Murphy and Stephanie England again. Centre Back for Pres received a yellow card and the initiative was now with Carrigaline Tara O Connor scored from the resultant free Carrigaline were now on top but could not score the goal they badly needed and when they did score the goal by Roisin Murphy it was disallowed because of infringement before the ball reached her. Carrigaline now piled on the pressure and with Sally Griffin pushing forward at every chance and were rewarded when a free deceived Megan Callanan who could only push it to the roof of the net, with their goal now under pressure Pres backs defended with great intensity and defied the Carrigaline attack with Laura Finlay making a goal line clearance to deny Carrigaline the goal they badly needed. Pres weathered the storm despite having another player sin binned and scored points through Elaine Devine two and Edel Dwyer. Carrigaline were now putting the Pres goal under severe pressure Megan Callanan made a great save however Carrigaline scored a goal from the rebound by Tara O Connor to leave the bare minimum between the teams. While any number of players Grainne Gorman, Michaela Graham & Bernie Bergin from Pres and Fia Coghlan, Rebecca Walsh Carrigaline could have been player of the match, it went to Sally Griffin Carrigaline who was immense throughout for Carrigaline with her attacking runs particularly in the second half.
