Friary Senior Ladies book place in All-Ireland Final.

St. Augustine’s secured an All-Ireland final spot with a win over Loretto, Balbriggan on Friday last in Bagenalstown. The game proved to be a tough physical battle and it was played at a fast pace from the throw-in. The Friary got off to an ideal start with Liz Devine raising the green flag within two minutes followed by a great point from the in-form Clodagh Ryan. As expected the Dublin outfit fought back to score their only goal of the game in the seventh minute. The game ebbed and flowed with both schools exchanging scores throughout the majority of the first half. Emer Fennell scored 1-1 and Loretto scored four points during this period. The Friary team came thundering back into the game in last three minutes before the break notching up 1-3 in quick succession. Clodagh added 1-1 to her tally and Liz and Emer added a point each. The score at half time was 3-6 to 1-4 in favour of the Waterford team.
The second half continued at the same intensity with both sets of players showing their mettle throughout.  St. Augustine’s registered two scores in this half. Liz Devine took credit for this 1-1 after some lovely linking play with Emer Fennell. The Dublin school battled really hard scoring five points from play but the Friary backs stood firm with Martha Cosgrave at the helm and ably assisted by the full defensive unit and hardworking midfielders. The game finished up with a seven point victory for St. Augustine’s. The All-Ireland final is due to be played at the end of March (provisionally 24th) against Ursuline, Sligo. The Junior team are playing against Colaiste Iosagain from Stillorgan on Friday the 16th March at 12pm in Bagenalstown. Keep up the hard work girls!
